Be careful which Plastic Man cartoon you're voting for! There's a reason why Plastic Man has two different fan pages. This page right here is for the wackier version of the show which was less about fighting crime and more about the adorably wacky antics of "Baby Plas".

I have no idea why, but I have a very soft spot in my heart for this version of Plastic Man :)

Share your memories, stories and other feelings about Plastic Man and/or Baby Plas in the comments below. And if you've a mind to, don't forget to go and vote for this in the Best Cartoon of 1981 Poll!

1981 marked the departure of The New Adventures of Batman, a cartoon that I hold near and dear to my heart. Not only did it feature the vices of Adam West and Burt Ward (the Batman and Robin from the 1960's live-action TV show), but it also included my two favorite terrible cartoon ideas:
  • Bat-Mite: If you think Scrappy-Doo is annoying, just give Bat-Mite a try for a while!
  • The Bat-Computer: As we all know, our cartoons had to convey some sort of moral or socially-conscious message like "Always brush your teeth" or "Drugs are bad mmkay?" For the most part it was up to the kids to figure out the message of the show on their own. But on The New Adventures of Batman, every epiode ended with The Bat-Computer blaring a flashing and loud alert of "BAT-MESSAGE! BAT-MESSAGE!" which would then lead to Batman and Robin and Bat-Mite all talking about what the message of this episode was. IT WAS ASTOUNDING!

So if The New Adventures of Batman is one of YOUR favorites like it was mine, then be sure to go and vote for it in our Best of 1981 Poll and leave your own personal memories or feeling about the show in the comments below :)

The Kwicky Koala Show, the bane of my Saturday Mornings! This was on during one of the "Dead Times" of Saturday morning where I would spend the entire morning switching back and forth between the 12 channels on our dial hoping that SOMETHING would end up looking fun.

But hey! Maybe this is YOUR favorite Staurday Morning cartoon! If so, be sure to go and vote for it in our Best Cartoon of 1981 Poll and leave a few find comments below to let others know how much you love this show :)cc

The Kid Super-Power Hour With SHAZAM! melted my little 8-year-old mind and further blurred that razor-thin line between Fantasy and Reality. Teenagers dressed up as Super Heroes! And then they turned in to cartoon character for the cartoon parts! And the very first ever CAPTAIN MARVEL CARTOONS! This was a bonding point between my Dad and I... he was decidedly non-nerdy, but had been a Captain Marvel fan when he was a kid (he was an older dude).

If you have anything nice to say, or anything to say at all about this show please feel free to share it in the comments below. And hey, if this is one of your favorites? Be sure to go and vote for it in our Best Cartoon of 1981 Poll!

1981 saw the premiere of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, a cartoon that stuck around for most of the 1980's in one way or another even if they stopped making new episodes in 1983. It was JUST THAT POPULAR! If you agree with me and think that this cartoon is one of the greatest ever, be sure to go and vote for it in our Best Cartoon of 1981 Poll! And of course if you have anything nice to say about Spidey & Friends, any memories or stories you'd care to share, please go right ahead and leave a few comments below :)

Space Stars is the show *I* like to call "The show you forgot that you loved but trust me you loved it". SPACE GHOST, HERCULOIDS, GALAXY TRIO and ASTRO & THE SPACE-MUTTS!!! As the announcer will warn you, get ready for sixty lazer-blasting minutes of ADVENTURE!

I am seriously surprised that I am the ONLY PERSON who has voted for this cartoon over in our Best Cartoon of 1981 Poll. Surely you have some recollections or memories of this show? C'mon, show some love!

Now HERE'S an easy to follow cartoon! The Super Globetrotters: World famous basketball performers get super powers, fight crime. Easy!

I remember getting mad at this cartoon because it was more "Globetrotters" than "Super" (I was a Super-Hero addict).

So leave your comments, memories, personal thoughts and whatever in the comment below and don't forget to go and vote for The Super Globetrotters in our Best of 1980 Poll if you feel that it's deserving :)

This is a cartoon that, in my opinion, suffered from TMIS (Too Many Ideas Syndrome). Let's count them, shall we? We have:
  • A vintage cartoon character who is a
  • Ghost, but
  • A rebel who doesn't conform to stereotypes and has a
  • Best buddy older mentor who
  • Accepts the alternate lifestyle of his little buddy and they're
  • Guardian Angels for
  • Two female police officers in
  • A male-dominated sexist society in
  • Outer-Space of
  • The far-off future of 2179 where they
  • Fight crime and
  • Solve mysteries

Pretty simple, right? And I won't even include my own personal theory that Casper is the ghost of Batman (I have PROOF!)

Please feel free to leave your memories, stories, fun facts and whatever you want to say about Casper and The Angels in the comments below. And don't forget to go and vote for this show in our Best of 1980 Poll if you feel that this show is deserving :)

I *still* have not found any video proof that this cartoon ever actually existed, even though it was on NBC from December 8, 1979 to November 15, 1980. Almost an entire YEAR this cartoon was on the air, and nobody on The Internet has proof!

From what I've heard, this may be because each 90-minute episode included less than 5 minutes of "New" footage, and the rest of the show was yet ANOTHER Hannah-Barbera repackaging of 1970's half-hour cartoons. The Toons involved were:

The New Fred & Barney Show

The Schmoo

...And because they had another 30 minutes to fill, I dunno... how about... OOH! THE THING!

(Not the REAL Thing from the Fantastic Four, but the one that many 80's kids vaguely remember. The teenager who had rings which, when he touched them together and said "THING RING DO YOUR THING!" would transform him in to the orange, rocky creature)

My assumption as to why there's no video proof of this show is because NOBODY CARED :(

HOWEVER! Maybe this is your favorite cartoon ever, I dunno. Leave your thoughts, memories and whatnote re: The All New Fred & Barney, The Schmoo and/or The Thing here! Just don't go and vote for it, because I'll NEVER be able to find a video of it :(

What is it the kids these days say? "Haters gonna hate"? Is that "Jiggy" enough? Am I speaking "Dope"?

The title of the cartoon was just "Scooby-Doo And Scrappy-Doo", and it introduced the world to a cultural MILESTONE known as Scrappy-Doo.

Now I don't have much of an opinion in any direction regarding the entire Scooby-Doonivers of cartoons... Scooby-Doo is not as beloved to me as it is to so many others. To me, Scooby-Doo was a bottom feeder. Channel m7 has College Football, channel 5 has Golf, channel 12 has some religious show on... oh, Scooby-Doo is on channel 4. And since I'm certainly not going to waste this sunny Saturday morning on dragging my fat little 7-year-old butt outside like my Mom keeps saying I should do, I guess I'll watch Scooby-Doo.

Scrappy-Doo was a bit annoying, sure... but no more annoying than a cowardly hippie with an eating disorder and a giant dog with a speech impediment (imho).

Agree? Disagree? Share your own thoughts, opinions and memories in the comments below and hey! If this is one of your favorites? Why not head over there and vote for it in our Best Cartoon of 1980 Poll!

And by "All New Popeye Hour", they meant "1970's Popeye Cartoons mixed with Dinky Dog cartoons"

Other than Dinky Dog, this hour-long show also had the most bizarre/tragic thing I've ever seen; Popeye's "Nephews" (who are definitely "Scooby-Don't" characters, btw) that are so obviously his kids that they even share his exact same physical deformities and speech patterns. And all the more tragic is later on in the 90's when we get "Popeye & Son", there's NO MENTION of the "Nephews". THIS BOTHERS ME!!!

Feel free to discuss below. And hey, if this is one of your favorites? Be sure to go and vote for it over on our Best Cartoon of 1980 Poll!

Fat Albert & The Cosy Kids premiered in 1972, sure, but it wasn't till the 1979/1980 season that they made a drastic change to the show which forever separated the show in to two very distinct "Pre" and "Post" eras.

That's right... THE BROWN HORNET. Just in case the moral message of the show wasn't being ham-fistedly shoved down your throat quite fast enough, they decided to break in to the middle of every episode to have a fictional show WITHIN the show blatantly state and deliver the moral message to you. THat's effin' BRILLIANT!

Please feel free to leave your favorite memories, stories or other thoughts in the comments below. And hey, if this is one of your favorites? Don't forget to go and vote for it in our Best Cartoon of 1980 Poll!

Another hold out from the 1970's that continually got repackaged along with other cartoons. I think this particular old-timer is notable mainly because of GODZOOKI. Godzooki was like Scrappy-Doo 1.0, a prototype which spawned a very specific type of annoying character that everyone hated.

Still though, if you're a fan feel free to leave your comments, stories, remembrances and other whatnot here in the comments to share with others. And if it was a favorite of yours, don't forget to go and vote for it in our Best Cartoon of 1980 Poll!

A special nod to Dynomutt The Dog Wonder, who was the first of the 1970's Legends to fall oout of circulation in the 1980's. Although new episodes stopped production in the late 1970's, it was in the year 1980 that Dynomutt had his final run on network Saturday Morning TV as part of NBC's "Godzilla / Dynomutt Hour". It was the beginning of a huge trend; package two or more 1970's re-runs together and sell it to the kids as something that might be new but was really just re-runs.

So here's to you, Dynomutt... thanks for being a part of our 80's Saturday Morning Experience!

Leave your Dynomutt comments, stories and memories here to share with the rest of the group, and if Dynomutt is one of your favorites then don't forget to go vote for him in our Best of 1980 Poll!

This is the opening from the Super Friends as it appeared on Saturday mornings in 1980. The thing I find really interesting about this particular opening is that if I remember correctly, this was the first year they didn't even MENTION characters like Wendy & Marvin or The Wonder Twins, which had been the big selling point through the 1970's. Weird, huh? Please note that there will also be fan pages for the other 1980's versions of The Super Friends such as "Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show" and "The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians". You may remember them from the various i970's incarnations such as "Challenge Of The Super Friends" and "The Worlds Greatest Super Friends", but since this community is all about the 80's Saturday Morning Experience we'll just be focusing on the incarnations from the 1980's (which had all the 1970's episodes recycled in to them anywho).

This is the opening theme song for the cartoon "Fonz And The Happy Days Gang" from 1981. For those of you unfamilliar with this cartoon, let me just say that I *LOVED* this show, and yes I know how terrible it is. But it had everything that Little Captain Slinky loved! Time Travel! The 50's! Marketable crossover prime-time characters! And best of all, the only cartoon sidekick I've ever despised more than Scrappy-Doo... MISTER COOL! Comment here with your favorite Smurf memories, and then if it's your favorite don't forget to go vote for it in our Best of 1981 Poll!
