Welcome to our new members! We're very excited to have you!
This community is dedicated to the planning, coordinating and execution of our Virtual Saturday Morning Cartoon Viewing Party! Kind of like a Civil War Re-enactment Society, only with less guns and more Cookie Crisp cereal.
Imagine this: waking up early on Saturday morning, still in your pajamas, turning on your TV/Computer, and starting a video playlist. You get the experience as it was, TV shows, commercials, PSAs, educational bits and all! And just like the 80's, no pausing! If you want another bowl of Cookie Crisp, you'll have to wait for a commercial break, just like when you were a kid! Our first Saturday morning community watch-along with live chat is scheduled for September 3rd! Details coming soon!
So we have a few types of threads around here. There are some polls, fan pages, and some other discussion threads. Here's a few key threads you may want to check out.
IT BEGINS! (Details behind the idea.)
Nominations & Limitations (What types of things should be included?)
Best of 1980 Poll
Best of 1981 Poll
Best of 1982 Poll
Best of 1983 Poll
More to come!
We hope you'll have fun reminiscing with us and sharing your stories. In fact, go ahead and introduce yourselves in the comments and tell us one of your favorite Saturday morning memories!

There's this on squidoo:

My earliest memories are from 1979, so I never paid much attention to the 70's cartoon communities out there. I didn't find any on LJ with the few searches I tried. If you can't find one, you could always create one of your own. We could even share advertisements once in a while.

Date: 2011-08-05 07:39 pm (UTC)I grew up with sitcoms and cartoons both. My fav cartoons: My Little pony 'n Friends, Smurfs, Heathcliff, Garfield and Friends, TMNT (80s/90s cartoon), Jem, all the Disney Afternoon shows (Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, etc.), ALF, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Teddy Ruxpin cartoon (also owned the talking doll too), Dennis the Menace. The list is much longer than that - I had a lot of fandoms back in the 80s and 90s.
And of course the local stations also aired some of the old syndicated shows like Flintstones, Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny, etc.
The 80s and 90s were pretty good times for animation. It really isn't the same these days and I've seen animation start to decline a lot, especially the last couple of years. Jimmy Neutron is the last animated fandom I really liked. Ever since then, I've noticed the quality of animation becoming less and less than what it used to be.
It's good to find a community on LJ where we can relive the good old days.
It's also rare to find a community get the LJ spotlight two weeks after it was created so I wanted to congratulate both of you on that accomplishment! Keep it up! :)

Date: 2011-08-05 09:12 pm (UTC)We share a lot of the same favorites! Did you like Wildfire, too? Or was that a little early for you?
Thanks! It is rare to get attention this fast. Both of us have done big projects in the past, so we hope we can make this work too! We didn't expect a large community to start with. You guys will help keep us on target!
Hope you'll join us for the Saturday Morning watch-along on 9/3!
