It was a cereal before they figured out it sold better as a granola/breakfast bar. This is the box I remember, and I grew up in Boston...

Alas, this is courtesy of another man's Flickr, not my own photo. I -do- have a box of Donkey Kong cereal around somewhere, or at least I did...

Nutri-Grain cereal was infamous amongst my friends for leaving one feeling like you'd been eating spackle, this unpleasantly leaden weight in the gut after. Seems this was a shared sentiment since it went on to mutate into cereal bars and other such things.

I ate Donkey Kong cereal LOL too. I wish I had saved that box :P

Nutrigrain did sit there in your gut a while but Grape Nuts was the one cereal I could only eat a small amount of. It was just sooo filling.

Mmm, Grape Nuts. They were tasty. Though I thought it was weird that they didn't taste like grapes or nuts. Someone told me that Grape Nuts Ice Cream exists. I'm oddly curious. Never seen it around here.

Nope. Never heard it.

(I just had to clean up a 200 GB drive that wasn't even used a few days ago because I'd filled it. I thought it would be longer before a terabyte of space on my computer wouldn't seem like enough! o_O)

Haha when I was a kid my parents ate that and I could never figure out why they called it that. I said, they weren't nutty and they weren't grapey either.

My dad loves Grape Nuts, so we always had them around. I used to put boatloads of sugar on them. They're so freaking good that way.

Apparently my parents believed in healthy breakfasts because I remember I ate a lot more of these as a child then any of the sugary ones.

Now see my parents were starting to get worried about me as a kid ( I'm 43 now and back in my heydey sugary things supposedly made you hyperactive. I had ADD as a kid and my parents were afraid all that food coloring was making me crazy too LOL). Stuff I liked like Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops...my parents would let me only have that stuff once in a while.

I only had Kix, Frosted Miniwheats, and Life, only if they had a good coating of sugar to them. So it defeated the healthy part of it though ^_^;

My mom had me eat Cheerios to be healthy-- but my dad totally got me hooked on Count Chocula on the low.

Basic 4 (general mills) and Fruit & Fiber (the peach kind!) - my grandmom's kept these "healthier" cereals in the house and they were actually good!

Oh and Crispix!! OMG I loved those things!

I practically grew up on Kix... my sister got it in her wic deliveries and even though it wasnt sugary, it was still yummy!! Also I have fond memories of my gram making me shredded wheat, she'd microwave it with hot water and then add milk and brown sugar and then we'd sit and watch tv!! Great poll... Great memories!! :D
