Kidd Video (1984-1985 NBC) is a show I wish I knew more about - SHOULD know more about because of my "relationship" with Robbie Rist (the actor who played "Whiz")*, and yet here I am with relatively NO INFORMATION on the show :(

I can tell you that there were two seasons that aired on NBC for a total of 26 episodes that were then re-run as a third season before being sold to CBS as a "Filler" cartoon (no official spot on the schedule, used as a filler for whenever Saturday sporting events were delayed because of rain). I can tell you that you'll never see an official DVD release of the original videos because of copyright issues with the 80's music videos they played which they only had broadcast and rerun rights to. I can tell you it was one of the first collaborations between Saban Entertainment and DIC.

I can't tell you why the art and style of the show is so different from Season 1 to Season 2. I can't tell you who came up with the idea. I can't tell you ANY of the usual awesome behind-the-scenes fables and rumors that I usually have for 80's cartoons. When the subject of Kidd Video comes up, it seems that everyone says "Yeah that was a great show" and then they move on to other subjects :/

YMMV

*(In the early days of The Internet, I created a Religion based around the Robbie Rist character of "Cousin Oliver" from The Brady Bunch, and all the "incarnations" of Cousin Oliver which included "Whiz". I made the mistake of trying to qualify for Tax Exemption through the "Church", which lead to the website being mercilessly taken down by the free site it was hosted on).

You know, I haven't heard any behind-the-scenes info from this one either.

Maybe for ECCC we should cross-reference the cast & crew with the list of attendees to see if we can't find someone who remembers anything at all about Kidd Video.

I was always either hot-or-cold when it came to Kidd Video, either I was glued to it or I couldn't be arsed and wandered off within the first three minutes. Can't explain it, tho it's likely due to what music video was being used.

also daaaaaamn... a bunch of us long ago and far away established the Church of Havok, had a website and everything... it's dead now I think but those were fun times... (it's an AFI fan thing, long story...)

This is my all-time favorite 80s cartoon. I have a ton of episodes on tape and even a few on DVD a fellow fan transferred for me :) I even have their album on CD! And I used to be on a web community for the show, too, and Robbie Rist was a part of it :)

There is a fantastic fan website that you should check out--my dear friend Teresita made it, and we used to get together and have marathons. Sadly she passed away from cancer two years ago, but I will always think of her whenever I watch my beloved Kidd Video :)

Here's a link to her web site, which will provide you with a lot of answers to your questions!

I love love love this cartoon. Maybe because we didn't have MTV on our cable package growing up? t was my "fake" way of seeing current music videos or at least snippets.

First of all, did anyone else ever see the similarity between Master Blaster and Boss Hogg from The Dukes Of Hazzard?

And mentioning Robbie Rist reminded me of something I saw elsewhere online about two or three years ago. Someone had posted the opening sequence of Big John, Little John, a Saturday morning series that Rist had done a few years prior to Kidd Video. In that series, Rist and Herb Edelman played the 12-year-old and 40-year-old versions of the same person.

Anyway, when I saw the blog post, I did a little checking, and I was kind of surprised that at the time of the post, Rist was now a couple of years older than what Edelman had been at the time that BJ,LJ was made. Believe it or not, he's now 49.
