I've finally finished our first year of cataloguing 1980's Saturday Morning line-ups, 1980! Each of these cartoons are tagged as being "1980" because they debuted in September of 1980, meaning that if you remember seeing these cartoons on TV you probably remember seeing them in 1981. Sometimes, TV gets all wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey like that :)

God those shows bring back so many good memories LOL. Those were the days being younger...when I didn't have a lot of worries except to get up early on Saturday, quietly eat sugary cereal and try not to wake my parents up :)

The hardest part of Saturday Morning for me was that the cartoons made me REALLY want to play with all my Legos while watching. Do I risk dumping them all out and waking up my parents, or do I just try to quietly shift through the box looking for the right piece??? Or maybe even *gaaaasp* NOT BUILD ANYTHING AT ALL?!?! Buit -but-but what do I do during that dead half-hour when all that's on is Scrappy-Doo, Flintstones and Popeye???

This is why I love our watch-alongs so much, it's a chance to go back and put right what once went wrong :)

Or, on a really lucky weekend, frosted cherry-flavored Pop Tarts! Or when my parents left the Oreos or Chips Ahoy in the wrong spot, I would sneak a couple into my Cap'n Crunch. XD

Oh man, I'm on that special medically-restricted diet right now. I will have to figure out what appropriate food I can eat. No cereal or pop tarts, that's for sure. XD

Were any of these canceled mid-season and replaced with something else?

Nope, not according to my cross-referencing between old TV Guides and the official record on Wikipedia... some of the shows were juggled to different time zones here and there, so what I'm doing is going back and adding notations to the existing show posts as I find their new places on the schedule. (like for example with The Smurfs, it's official post will be named "1981 8:30 on NBC: The Smurfs" and then in the text as I come through each year I'll put a note saying "Also aired in this timeslot 1982, 1983 and at 10:00 1984" etc and so on and soforth and then I'll also tag the post with the relevant years and time slots. See the listing for Richie Rich/Scooby Doo for an example (first one I ran in to for 1981). Then when it comes time to make a Master Post for 1981, I'll put it on the official Master Post for 1981 with a link to the original 1980 post for the show.

I went hunting for the ones from this year which were available on Netflix Streaming:
Godzilla: The Original Animated Series (1978, 13 episodes))
Aaand, that's it.

Pretty pathetic selection for 1980.

Heathcliff is also available, but it's the later, syndicated version that was usually paired with "Riff-Raff" :(

Yeah, the 1984 Catillac Cats version, IIRC. It still had some good episodes, but they had already used up a lot of the best jokes early on. I liked the Catillac Cats segments, though.

I loved the Catilac Cats :) I was introduced to them when they were part of a huge Sunday Morning cartoon anthology show on the then fledgling Channel 22 (Ah the good old days of UHF) along with cartoons NO ONE had ever heard of like "TigerSharks (a Thundercats knock-off), "Street Frogs" (Fat Albert with amphibians), uhm... (Google) I don't recognize the other two shows but they were called "Mini-Monsters" and "Karate Cat". They also ran My Pet Monster, Voltron (Vehicle version), Thundercats and a rotating roster of syndicated action shows like Rambo: Force Of Freedom and Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos :)
