This is one of the greatest, most overlooked cartoons of all time. It was a perfect mix of Super Friends, the Christopher Reeves Superman movies and the (then) recently rebooted Superman comic book mythos. Everything about this cartoon was *perfect* for a comic book fan, and was a direct precursor to the great Super Hero Revival of the 1990's (which officially started with "Batman: The Animated Series"). The entire series is available on DVD now and I highly suggest that you check it out if you're a fan of super heroes.

Leave a few kind thoughts and warm memories of this, the greatest Superman cartoon ever made, in the comments below. And if you haven't done so already, you just might want to head over and give this a vote in our Best of 1988/1989 Poll!

Also, you might want to keep the morning of Saturday, December 10th open...

I always thought there were quite a few loving nods to the old Fleischer cartoons too (which B:TAS would emulate even more). It also was one of the first comic based cartoons that reflected the actual comics coming out at the same time as it was clearly based on the John Byrne relaunch of Superman.
