The Alf cartoon was every bit as good, if not better than the original live-action sit-com. Take that as you will :P

It was soooo much better than the live action show! It was far more subversive and had great moments of social parody and satire. I have always felt that in some ways this show was a "gateway drug" for kids of the 80's to discover stuff like Monty Python but also primed them for shows like The Simpsons and South Park in the coming decades after.

I do recall seeing it as a kid, though, I would have loved seeing it as an adult. Boy, the fun I would have had with that.

I'm all about the cartoon series rather than the live action show. For one, the live action show was kinda hampered by needing a puppet. In the cartoon Alf could actually do some stuff.

I see where you're coming from, and I agree... but without the puppet live-actions show I would have never even checked out the cartoon! Looking back now, though, the cartoon holds up while the TV show is just *sad* :(

I saw the ALF Christmas episode last year. It was okay, but I can see now that it's a little too...sanitized might be a good word for it.

I don't remember watching the animated series, but I did watch the sitcom. Loved it (and I can't really remember why).
