Yet another of my personal failures as a child of the 1980's - I had NO IDEA that this cartoon existed till just a few years ago! And that's DESPITE my having been a pretty avid fan of The Dukes of Hazzard! And it's not like it was a simple throw-away one-season cartoon show to be forgotten forever... this thing was on the air for TWO WHOLE SEASONS!!! I owned a GI Joe - sized General Lee with Bo & Luke Duke, I owned a Dukes of Hazzard Wrist Racer, I watched the show every Friday night... HOW DID I MISS THE CARTOON?!?!? And to top it off, it even looks kind of incredible with The General Lee pulling off all sorts of Mach 5 / Speedbuggy-type stunts along the way!

Leave a few kind words or serious thoughts about The Dukes in the comments below and if it was one of your favorites then don't forget to go vote for this cartoon in our Best Cartoon of 1983 Poll!

I had an African American guy buddy that used to watch this with me. Of course we were the only minorities on our block at that time. Now he wanted a car for his sixteenth birthday that was modeled after the General Lee. His dad was like, " Um son, I don't think...you want to do that." LOL. Yeah I remember this show briefly.

Well but it was all in good fun on shows like the Dukes Of Hazzard. I could forgive them for that flag.

Well, it was a very badass car. And your anecdote was most cute and amusing -- it made my night. Thank you.

Although, it eventually had a worthy challenger when KITT came along. It's hard to top a car being voiced by Mr. Feeny. Heh.

As much as I would want KITT, my heart can't say no to the General Lee. I also don't think I could handle a car that talked back to me.

"You're making the wrong turn, Michael."

"Shut up, Mr. Feeny! Who's in charge, you or me?!"

(If I had watched 2001: A Space Odyessy, this part would be more impressive.)

Awesome that Bach and Booke got to voice their respective roles. (I have to love a series that James Best voiced.)

That intro was awesome, as well -- can anyone imagine that in this day and age? Especially bursting out of the Confederate flag backdrop like that (at 0:05)? And I can't resist a basset-hound wearing a hat, either....

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else noticed the similarity in appearance between Boss Hogg and Master Blaster of Kidd Video?

And I always thought KITT sounded like Captain Nice.
