Poll: Breakfast Cereal Part III: On The Shoulders of GIANTS!

WHile doing my scientific research for this community, I discovered far too many cereals that simply COULD NOT be ignored or skipped over. And so our Cereal Polls for this community will be increased from 3 polls to 4. Here is pool number 3 which I simply call "On The Shoulders of Giants". These are the PILLARS of Sugary Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. These are the ones that everyone knows and they really do deserve a special treatment... a poll that sets them apart from all the other cereals.

Vote for as many as you experienced, or as many as you actually enjoyed, or the ones you still eat today... just vote for all your favorites! And if you want to see a commercial from the 80's of each one, feel free to click on the individual names of the cereals to link over to YouTube and watch :)

I have nommed them all and loved 'em :)

I am such a junkie with Frosted Flakes, it's not funny.

Although, Rick Krispies isn't bad, but not filling.

Being stuck in Canada-land, I've never had a chance to try Boo Berry, Frankenberry or Cookie Crisp! :( For some reason though, as an adult, they deemed Count Chocula was okay for Canadian children so I did finally have a chance to try that one.

Yes, and that's not even getting into the milk ratio, as some cereals use more or less milk than others. Between and a new cereal, Cinnabon, it's almost like tasting heaven. (If heaven could be tasted as such. Heh.)

[identity profile] mspette.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, if only froot loops were still available!

[identity profile] cptlbryant.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This is kinda sad. I tried them all, but didn't like them all. My favorite was Cookie Crisp, but was around $5 a box and my mom couldn't afford it all the time. As an adult, I bought a box and couldn't eat it. It was like eating pure sugar. Ugh. Amazing what we eat as kids. But most of the others I can still enjoy now. Except Crunchberries.

I love them all but Honeycomb. For some reason, never really liked the taste. All the other? Om nom nom nom!

LUCKY CHARMS ARE THE BEST AMIRITE

[identity profile] ghrelin.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
but I know for a fact you guys have cinnamon toast crunch, and that along with golden grahams is the true king among cereals~

Lucky Charms were the most fun looking cereal, but they didn't taste very good to me. Cap'n Crunch was my favorite.

Any cereal that couldn't stand up to milk was out. I still only pour a little milk into the bowl and only right before I'm about to eat so my cereal doesn't go soggy. Rice Krispies and [Fruity|Cocoa] Pebbles were tasty, but they went soggy too fast!

Wow. I never even came close to thinking any of that. The theory sounds a lot like some of the ones I heard growing up about various otherwise-benign-seeming products/bands/what-have-you. XD I generally thought most of it was reaching at best.

I know what you mean. I eventually learned to stop eating it once my mouth started feeling irritated. That was the only one that I let sit in the milk a little bit first.

[identity profile] deepseasiren.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
LOLOL and that was one of my favorite cereals. I also loved Sugar Smacks, Frosted Flakes, Captain Crunch, Frootloops and Rice Krispies.

[identity profile] deepseasiren.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with that...the cereal has to stand up to the milk. Like you, I only pour about half a cup ( if that) into the bowl.

[identity profile] deepseasiren.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I thought they looked like little crosses but I hadn't thought about the fish. LOL and I went to Catholic school of all things ;)

Yeah, because too much and it will make the cereal soggy before you can get to it, and too much milk is wasted otherwise.

I'm so looking forward to having some pop tarts and Cap'n Crunch that day!

[identity profile] cherry-faery.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
You guys can't put ketchup on your mac & cheese? This is puzzling and very sad. (Unless you mean that we have the stuff were you cook it with the ketchup in the sauce which I think I've seen but it seems to me that putting the real stuff on your KD would probably still be the better option.)

[identity profile] cherry-faery.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
It is true. I practically lived off Cinnamon Toast Crunch when I was old enough to badger my mother enough for her to want to shut me up. :)

I have never been able to accurately describe my love/hate relationship with Cap'n Crunch but this sums it up both perfectly and hilariously. Said description could also apply to both Toblerone and (in my case at least) Starburst candies.

haha, good one... though I don't think marshmallows are more likely to make you fat than wheat things! Either way, still an awesome cereal, still love it as an adult.

The UK :P

In my research I have just found out that Canadian froot loops are very different and more flavoursome than European froot loops (where they are still available).

[identity profile] deepseasiren.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Pop Tarts!!! My favorite was strawberry Pop Tarts! I wouldn't even put them in the toaster I'd just eat em right out of the package. My parents used to gross out at that. LOL

[identity profile] deepseasiren.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
They had Pac Man cereal for a while there too that was based on Lucky Charms. All the little marshmallows were ghosts and pacmans.

[identity profile] beagle1.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed a lot of these. Cookie Crisp was my all time fav though. I can still get down on a box of that :P

[identity profile] cooperwench.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
We had boo-berry and Frankenberry back in the day. Don't know why they stopped.

[identity profile] cooperwench.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Lucky Charms is the bomb.

[identity profile] man-of-snows.livejournal.com 2012-09-06 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite wasn't on there: Apple Jacks
