Halloween

Halloween is next week!  Most of us are probably doing our thing this weekend though.  While putting together my costume, I was reminded that we need a Halloween post here!

It will be mostly 80's-cartoon-related costumes, with a few tangents.  Lots of images.

So, let's get started:

This is a good Rainbow Brite. Apparently it's from a pattern released that year.  Boot covers and everything!
Rainbow Brite and Sprite

A couple of adorable girls, but I don't know what their costumes are.  Definitely 80's, though. Check out that Mr. Men candy bag! (Edit: probably Punky Brewster)

A clown (that sewing pattern was EVERYWHERE back then and I even wore it one year) and a Punk Rocker or Street Walker?  You decide!

Good Strawberry Shortcake and an Oscar!
Doesn't look grouchy enough.

I think this may have been Teen-Wolf inspired:

Going as a book?  That's a novel concept. *badabing*

This takes the shortcake for cute:
ADORABLE

This is a really good Ewok, unlike the shag-carpet version my husband had as a kid.

I can safely say I've never seen an NBC peacock costume before:

Store-bought:
She-ra

I think everybody had a store-bought one at least once.  There were a few good ones out there, but a lot were kinda crappy.  Good thing we didn't know better as kids. XD

M.A.S.K. and Transformers:

Catra and Cabbage Patch Kid:

Yoda (and a Leia/Ballerina/Princess/Fairy)

Not during the 80s, but here's a funny He-Man themed masquerade performance:

Some quick and easy ideas for last-minute costumes:

Blog post about a good Cyndi Lauper costume from 1984.  It's not that hard to find clothing you can use at a second-hand store, either.  The hair color spray is also easy to get this time of year.

Jem costumes are actually pretty easy if you can get a pink wig and find some cheap thrift-store clothing to cut up and some earring bits to attach stars to.  The make-up is much more difficult, though, since it hs to be vivid and obvious.  I once found a video on Youtube describing how to do it.  I'm not able to go Youtube-hunting right now though.

One of my friends decided last-minute to do Inspector Gadget.  He had an old damaged gray hat and a gray trenchcoat already.  He bought a wig and two pairs of matching gloves. He bought a metal folding/unfolding thing that is kind of in a criss-cross pattern and rigged it to stick out the top of the hat (which he cut open with a flap) and stuck a stuffed glove to the end.  Worked surprisingly well.

And last, but certainly not least, a bit from the 1987 Disney DTV Halloween Special!

I'll see how my costume turns out and whether or not I can post a pic of it.  I'm leaning toward not, since it might be a bit inappropriate and I'd rather not end up with that out on the Internets for posterity. XD  We'll see.

Got any 80's or 80's cartoon-related costumes or ideas to share?  Pics if you got 'em!  (Keep it family-safe!)

I love the Rainbow Brite, Oscar, and Ewok costumes! ^_^

I think, maaybe, in the second pic they, or at least the girl on the left, is suppose to be Punky Brewster?

Yay! I had that werewolf mask that the boy on the left is wearing in the 5th pic! I loved that his teeth had glow in the dark paint on them ^_^

These are such awesome costumes! Thanks for posting! ^_^

I was totally store bought She-Ra one year. I have a picture...I should find it and scan it.

I was also a store bought Goizmo the gremlin too...

Not a costume from the 80s, but 80s-cartoon-related...my Charlie Brown costume from last Halloween.

One of those girls might have been Punky Brewster.

LOL! Hilarious stuff!
I remember that clown print, totally creepy! I was both Optimus Prime and Skeletor, almost identical to the Megatron/M.A.S.K. costumes, but sadly I have no scanner to scan the pics. :(

NBC Peacock has got to be one of the more bizarre and random ones I've ever seen. :P

i had a few of the lovely, possible flamable, store bought costumes with cheap, plastic masks ( which why we don't see them anymore). I also had a Minnie Mouse costume from a McCall's pattern ( the gloves were a pain.)

I think my favorite part of the store-bought costumes was not the mask, but the rest of the costume. Expensive ones had a plastic shirt and plastic pants, but cheap ones just came with a plastic bib. I alwasy felt cheated either way because no self-respecting 70's/80's cartoon character would wear a shirt or bib with their name and picture on it! Superman bib was replaced with Superman Underoos T-Shirt right away - the bib showed Clark Kent jumping in to a phone booth and flying out as Superman! Can you imagine?!?!? "Not so fast, Superman... I, LEX LUTHOR, now have the upper hand! You may have stopped my Robotic Sharks from destroying the city, but while you did that I happened to look at your bib and now I KNOW YOUR SECRET!!!"
