POLL: Saturday Morning Ritual

I had two friends that I shared Saturday Morning with in my childhood. Depending on who's house we were spending the night at, we had three very different ways of doing Saturday Morning.

Greg, who was one year older than me, was an NBC Saturday Morning loyalist. We tuned in to channel 5 and we STAYED on channel 5 all morning long because he truly believed that all other Saturday Morning line-ups were inferior.

Damon, who was the same age as me, was a "Flipper". Where he lived we only got 5 channels and Damon would sit right next to the TV (no remote control) and flip through the channels EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHOW just in case he was missing something better on one of the other 4 channels.

And as for *me*, I would spend my own allowance money on a TV Guide on Tuesday so I could plan the coming Saturday morning. I would write down the perfect schedule, timing each program and making notes as to which channel I should turn to in case of a re-run or sporting event (I hate College Football to this very day because they preempted my Saturday morning schedule so often).

So which were you? Planner, Flipper or Loyalist? I know you probably did a little bit of each one, sure, but which one were you most drawn to? Or maybe you had something completely different that you'd care to leave in the comments below :)

I always went through the TV Guide so I would know what channel to flip to as soon as my current show was over.

I would always plan out my Sat mornings. I even put in bathroom breaks in case they were needed. XD

Oh yeah. I have it all planned out. Which shows to watch on which station and woe if there were two or three shows I wanted to see scheduled at the same time. Sometimes I'd switch between shows at the commercial break. These days I turn the channel when I'm bored. Life was so different back then.

Didn't use the TV Guide but my brother and I usually would plan our shows according to which ones we would both want to watch, then alternate if there was a show I liked and he didn't, and vice versa.

I voted for one channel. Not entirely true, but mostly watched RTL. :) Just moved to a different channel every now and then to catch a bit of Silverhawks or Flintstones.

And would move to ARD in the afternoon to catch the Disney Club (in the 90s).

I even highlighted the TV guide.

Totally a TV Guide planner. I used to "highlight" shows I wanted to watch by shading them in with the side of the pencil lead. And boy did I get ticked off when the stations deviated from what was printed, unless it was in favor of more cartoons!

I also tried to watch every Fall Preview show, because otherwise I might miss something!!! XD

Totally a planner.

Though I would still flip during commercials occasionally.

It was hard when I stayed over with my grandparents, because they had CABLE! That meant more options I had to weigh, and they were often unfamiliar options, so did I take the risk? Or did I stick with what I knew? :o

I remember the tv guide was set up different back then, it as black and white and had the little schedule blocks... we would color in the ones we were gonna watch... but first we'd all fight over which ones we were gonna watch... some days the girls won, some days the boys did!! :D
